If you are like most people and are setting a resolution to lose some weight this year, you can do it for more than just your waistline. In fact, we encourage all of our varicose vein patients to lose excess weight that may be contributing to symptoms. To help you meet your weight loss goals this year and find some relief from your varicose veins symptoms, we have created a list of a few things for you to try.
One of the best things that you can do for your heart, your veins, and your weight loss plan is to get moving and keep moving. Whether you decide to make small changes like take the stairs instead of the elevator, or if you want to do something a little bigger like join a spin class, moving will help you reach your goals. Just remember to try to set goals that are attainable and not too out of reach so you don’t burn out.
Not all carbohydrates are created equal, but you should watch yours consumption of them. Try to cut out as many processed carbs as possible like chips, cookies, sweets, and bread. Instead, try to replace them with healthier carbs like sweet potatoes and brown rice.
In addition to avoiding processed carbohydrates, try to ditch the sugar as well. For instance, by cutting out dessert every day, or even every week, you should notice some drastic weight loss results. To satisfy your sugar cravings, try something like a nonfat Greek yogurt with fresh raspberries in it.
Losing weight doesn’t have to painful. In fact, it can be quite effective if you follow the tips listed above. Before you start on a weight loss journey, make sure that you meet with your general practitioner to make sure that you’re healthy enough.
