Kyphoplasty

Pain caused by fractures in vertebrae makes it hard to carry on with your daily tasks. When you need a way to relieve the pain, consider getting kyphoplasty treatment in Houston. Texas Vein & Wellness Institute provides professional and compassionate kyphoplasty treatment for patients to help them get back to their lives free of pain.

What Is Kyphoplasty?

At Texas Vein & Wellness Institute, we help patients receive the treatment they need to alleviate their pain and prevent further complications from happening. Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that treats compression fractures on vertebrae. If the fractures go untreated, it could lead to bones in your spine collapsing or developing a curve. This is known as kyphosis, which makes it look like you are hunched over.

How the Kyphoplasty Procedure Works

When you get kyphoplasty done, you will be put under anesthesia. The procedure typically takes 15-30 minutes, depending on how many vertebrae need treatment and the extent of the damage. The minimally invasive procedure involves the surgeon inserting a needle into your back muscles to reach the bone.

Once the needle is in place, the surgeon will use an inflatable balloon device to help the bone regain height and its normal shape and open space for the surgeon to inject bone cement. The bone cement provides structure for the vertebrae, making it strong again so the bones do not collapse.

Recovery After Kyphoplasty

Depending on the extent of the procedure and your doctor’s orders, you may be able to go home the same day. When you are ready to go home, you will need to have someone drive you as you cannot drive after the procedure.

Your doctor will provide recovery instructions to help reduce pain and prevent complications. You may be able to return to your everyday activities almost immediately, but you must avoid strenuous tasks for a while. However, you are encouraged to rest 24 hours after the surgery before resuming activities. Your doctor may also recommend taking vitamins or eating specific foods to promote bone strengthening.
